Famous Egyptian sights

If you are thinking of visiting Cairo, or even any destination in Egypt, then here are just a few of the sights that you definitely need to see before leaving. Some of these are probably sights that you have heard of before, but some of them might still be unknown to you. Just remember, use your time in Egypt to visit the most historical sights!

You will be well rewarded for this time when you become dazzled by the magnificence of these ancient structures.

The Sphinx.

The Sphinx lies close to Cairo, and is a statue that depicts the body of a lion with a man’s head on top. It is unknown as to exactly who built this statue or who it pays tribute too, but it still stands as the largest monolith statue in the world. It is over 240 feel long, 20 feet wide, and stands 65 feet high. It is believed to have been constructed by the ancient Egyptians in the third millennium BC, and is one of the greatest sights that Egypt has to offer.

Luxor.

Luxor is a city in Southern Egypt and the Capitol of Luxor Governorate. The population of the city was measured in 1999 to be 376,022 people, and the city encompasses about 160 square miles. But what is so unique about this city is the fact that it stands over what was once the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes. This means that many ruins, including the ruins of the temple complexes of Karnak, still stand to this day for you to see and explore. Also, right across the Nile stands the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens, making this place a center for historical activity and tourism every year.

Cairo

And do not miss the hustle and bustle of the major, modern city of Cairo. This is a metropolis of the old world that contains a flair of the modern, making it the perfect headquarters for your vacation getaway. Located by many historical sights, including the Great Sphinx, Cairo is a city of the new world that demands the attention of any visitor to old Egypt.
