Many people think of Cairo as the easiest way to get to the Pyramids at Giza, and this is a fact that is true. The pyramids at Giza dominate the Cairo skyline almost as much as they do the wonder of travelers. But believe it or not, Cairo holds a lot more than just these monolithic giants of the old world… Cairo is a hustling, bustling place of wonder, culture, and history that you could seep yourself into for years without learning even the beginning of what makes Cairo one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

From the Coptic quarters, to Islamic Cairo, to the narrow streets of Old Cairo itself, this city holds something for everyone. The city is dotted by historic buildings, mosques, gates, all overcast by the citadel that stands overhead for everyone to see. The main market, known as Khan al-Khalili, is the place where travelers go to see Cairenese go about  in their day to day activities. Trading, bartering, buying, and selling are the norm in this part of town.

In the middle of the city is the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, and this is found close to Midan Tahrir. This building houses some of the most precious artifacts from not only Cairo itself, but from other parts of Egypt. And  if you care to walk into another time period, how about making a visit to Bulaq a permanent date on your calendar? These medieval back streets will blow your mind and cause your imagination to run wild with excitement! You will actually feel like you are living in a movie!

Getting around in Cairo is pretty easy. You can either join a tour group, or you can sightsee yourself! Just take a taxi to the first destination from your hotel, and then walk around and enjoy the sights in that area. When you are done, just take a taxi to the next part of town!
